Windows Messenger 4.7 can be removed, but since it's a part of Windows,it's in the Windows Components part of Add/Remove programs.

How do I get rid of Messenger 4.7?

https://californiaonlinegamblinglawsomega-deposit.peatix.com. •

I'll assume you mean Windows Messenger 4.7, not to be confused withMSNMessenger.

To remove Windows Messenger, go to Control Panel, select Add orRemove Programs, select Add/Remove WindowsComponents, and uncheck Windows Messenger.

For what it's worth, uninstalling might not be necessary. Considerconfiguring Windows Messenger not to start up when you log in. That's a simplecheckbox in Windows Messenger's options.

I've got Windows XP Home (SP-1) and Windows Messenger 4.7; the Messenger appears in the icon tray every time the email program swithes into its third 'identity' (or alias), disappears when I leave that identity or close the Outlook Express. Closing it doesn't help; it doesn't appear in add/delete programs; a registry hack I found, doesn't work. Puzzling, eh?

Just got rid of the loading of Messenger, by simply finding the 'Messenger' file (My Computer, C: drive, Programs, Messenger), and renaming the whole file 'MessengerZ'. I suppose it's being 'called' by the email program, but of course it won't run now.

To get rid of windows messenger, find the file in c: programs and rename it. you may have to go into task manager and end its process first. Just push cntr alt delete at the same time, and look down the list in the box that comes up for msmsgs.exe, click on it and then click on the end process button. How do you take a screenshot on windows. then hou cna rename the file and it will dissappear. AIM may appear in your icon tray but that is easily taken care of.

I have Windows messenger 4.7 and struggle big-time with deleting it.
Whenever I try to delete it it gives me a message saying that some other program is using it and it can't be deleted unless I shut down that program. I can't find those programs to be running, and it does not help the least to close them if they are running. The same foes if I try to rename the filepath.
Help me!

I might try rebooting in safe mode and seeing if you could uninstall then.

Its not running, but if Outlook is set to run messenger in the background, it might pose a problem.

In outlook. Tools/Options
Select the OTHER tab
uncheck the option for Person Names Smart Tag.

Hope that helps
Mike

Leo you need to check your references again.
There is no place under control panel, add or remove programs, can you delete it.
This link from Microsoft explains it in detail how to remove it.

Forget Microsoft. To remove it, do the following:

Click on Start>>My Computer or Control Panel>>Add or remove programs>>Then select Add/Remove Windows Components on the left hand side. Now uncheck Windows Messenger at the very bottom and select next.

Right, now to remove it. Click Start>>Run. Cut and paste the following command: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%INFmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

IE and OE should also load a little faster.

To remove or uninstall the windows messenger, download the Remove Windows Messenger tool from http://www.diskdatarecovery.net/remove-windows-messenger

Leo Notenboom

That tool is *unnecessary*. Please read the article above or visit this article: http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_uninstall_windows_messenger.html

You don't need to download anything to remove messenger.

Someone set up a Windows messenger account on my PC with his login name as default. I can't get rid of it and I cannot get rid of his dropdown login either, despite following your instructions to the letter. The Add/Remove Windows components button just hasn't worked. In any case, I don't necessarily want to get rid of Messenger; I just want to get rid of his account everytime I open Messenger up. How do I do that? Any ideas.

Even though the other methods listed here WILL work, it's more effort than what is necessary. WHAT is necessary is exactly what Leo listed at first. Go to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, ADD/REMOVE WINDOWS COMPONENTS, and clear the check box beside Windows Messenger. Click OK, and after it runs it's little marathon, Messenger is all gone!
